The APPG on Agreocology supports amendments 66, 112 and 113 because these would enshrine the Government’s stated intentions with regards to the various environmental principles. We fear that without these amendments there would be gaps in the body of UK environmental law. To ensure that environmental protections continue to be applied and developed, the APPG for Agreocology believes that EU environmental law and principles need to be converted into domestic legislation.
The APPG believes that for Britain to be an environmental leader post-Brexit, the proposed statutory environmental regulator should have the precautionary principle firmly embedded in its terms of reference and duties.
There is strong cross party consenus on the need to ensure that robust environmental governance is in place as we depart from the EU, these amendments help meet that objective.
